GM doesn't expect Raptors to improve

Toronto Raptors general manager Rob Babcock doesn't have high expectations in terms of wins this season.Because of the influx of young players on the roster, the second-year GM doesn't expect the club to improve on it's 33-49 record from last season. ''There will be growing pains, no doubt about it,'' Babcock told the paper. ``Whether we win or lose more games than last year, I think if you look at us on paper, we probably will not win as many games as last year.
''We more or less have the same team back with the exception of Donyell Marshall, who was an integral part of our team last year. We're replacing him with rookies.''
Please tell me how a GM of a professional team can tell his fans that his team won't compete, won't win and won't even match their past year performance. Are not his duties as GM of the fifth largest sports market in north america to make a winner? Should he not be capable of producing Wins.
This will be a sad year for all you Raptor fans.

they may be rookies but from calderon to graham, villanueva (will surprise the naysayers) and even sophmore pape sow will contribute and impress. rose is not expected to hang around and the raptors are sure to get something worthwhile for him because babcock will not (hopefully) allow himself to get burned with another bad trade

what babcock should have said was that the raptors record at the end of the season should ressemble the last campaign but that the future is bright and shows promise even though the team has been handcuffed by previous deals and salaries (held hostage by selfish players Carter and Mourning etc...)
Now maybe he was trying to rally the troops to prove him wrong but buried himself six feet under in the process which then prompted Jalen Rose to say on the Best Damn Sports Show Period :
"I've never been part of a situation like that - and I'm sure I've never heard anybody in professional sports make a comment so negative that early in the season. Even bad teams have optimism. You don't want to take away the optimism so early in the season. The Bad News Bears coach wouldn't even tell (his team) that."

TORONTO - Days after Raptors general manager Rob Babcock created a stir by saying the team will win fewer games this season, forward Jalen Rose voiced his displeasure.
Rose appeared on the Best Damn Sports Show Period and was upset at Babcock's comments.
"I've never been part of a situation like that - and I'm sure I've never heard anybody in professional sports make a comment so negative that early in the season," Rose said. "Even bad teams have optimism. You don't want to take away the optimism so early in the season. The Bad News Bears coach wouldn't even tell (his team) that."
