undercutting undercurrents
arrghh!!!
Not fast enough yet again outdone by True Hoop only this time it wasn't Henry, it's KD (no not Kraft Dinner, think less flatulent inducing version) Kelly Dwyer, subbing for Abbott he refers readers to the letter Dennis Haas at HoopsHype.com sends to the director of officials about the "undercutting" of help defense that monopolizes team strategies in attempts to get calls for either a charge / block foul.
Like KD says:
Yet no one offers a solution what are the refs to do?
Calling the blocking foul more consistently might accelerate the pace of the game. Are defenders to roll out the red carpet to opponents driving the lane? Or allow more hacking on the perimeter ? There must be some kind of balance a new interpretation of the rule would incur. Could the refs be stiffer in their travelling/palming calls on outside ball handling dribble penetration or moving picks to balance out the first to the spot change needed to bring the game back to its roots?
